20/20 hindsight: CDI’s role in retrospective reviews
According to a recent ACDIS poll, 58% of respondents currently conduct retrospective chart reviews, and another 5% say they have plans to expand into retrospective reviews soon. While some of those 58% review pre-billing and others post-billing, the goal for retrospective reviews remains the same: ensuring the final chart accurately captures the patient’s severity, acuity, and all conditions related to that care encounter, especially if the chart was not reviewed by a CDI specialist concurrently.
