ACDIS update: CDI Journal focuses on opportunities and expansion
CDI is a land of opportunity. We know from our recent survey data that more than half of CDI programs plan to hire new staff this year. This staffing expansion is likely partly due to expansions in CDI scope and responsibilities to include outpatient CDI, denials management, quality programs, mortality reviews, pediatrics, psych, and more.
And we’re glad to see it. After several years of pandemic-related stagnation and even lost ground for many CDI teams, seeing the rebound to pre-pandemic rates of expansion (or even surpassing pre-pandemic rates) has been exciting for us here at ACDIS and we’re sure for many of our members in the field.
All that growth can be daunting, though. While many CDI professionals were originally attracted to the field partly because it offers almost limitless opportunities for learning, too much expansion and growth all at once can feel a bit like spelunking in a dark cave without a flashlight.
We hope that the newest edition of the CDI Journal, which is focused on expansion and opportunities in CDI, can shine a light on the nooks and crannies of your latest expansion project and help you avoid any missteps.
In this edition’s pages, readers will learn about:
- Hiring, staffing, and remote work trends
- Outpatient expansion steps
- CDI in the clinic setting
- CDI in the emergency department
- Evaluation and management documentation
- CDI reviews of psychiatric records
- CDI in the neonatal intensive care unit
- CDI in critical access hospitals
- The delicate nature and meaningful impact of mortality reviews
- Surgical complication coding
Of course this edition also includes our regular Meet a Member feature to offer advice directly from a CDI professional in the ACDIS community. We also included an article from one of the members of the ACDIS Regulatory Committee highlighting the group’s work on a “quality map,” and advice from Chicago natives for those planning to attend the 2023 ACDIS national conference this May.
The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something of value within its pages. The May/June edition of the Journal will be focused on CDI management and leadership tools. If you’d like to contribute an article or have a topic idea to share, please feel free to reach out.
