ACDIS update: Diversity and Inclusion Committee celebrates Pride Month
June 12, 2025
CDI Strategies - Volume 19, Issue 24
June marks a month-long celebration dedicated to commemorating the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) culture and community. It is celebrated in June to coincide with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots. We asked the Committee to offer some thoughts on the importance of this month, and here’s what they had to say:
- “Pride Month is a meaningful time to recognize each person's need for equality and inclusion. It's a celebration of how far we've come and a reminder that there is still work to do. Everyone deserves to be seen, be respected, and be safe. At the same time, it's worth remembering that not everyone shows their support in the same way. Some are more vocal, others show up in a quieter way, and that's okay! What matters most is being genuine and standing by your values. For me, Pride Month is about respecting people's right to be themselves, whatever that looks like. It's about creating space for everyone to show up fully, without pressure to fit a mold or lose their sense of self in the process.”
- “[This month] not only honors the fight for equal rights but also raises awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.”
We hope you’re taking a moment to mark this month with your departments and personally!
