ACDIS update: July/August CDI Journal considers expanding efforts, maintaining focus

CDI Strategies - Volume 12, Issue 31

“There are so many paths that [the CDI] profession has to offer—so many branches of interest, so many ways the CDI department can collaborate with others and assist in the overall quality of the medical record,” writes ACDIS Associate Editorial Director Melissa Varnavas, opening the July/August edition of the CDI Journal.

And that’s what this edition of the Journal has in its sights. While CDI is venturing into many other areas of healthcare—both inside and outside the acute inpatient hospital walls—CDI professionals need to keep their eyes on their ultimate goals.

For this edition, the ACDIS team spent some time speaking to people whose program is expanding and discussed how they’ve been successful and kept their focus clear.

In the pages of the Journal, readers will learn how to educate surgeons and review surgical cases, adapt their CDI software to provide better metrics, manage a CDI team dispersed over a hospital system, and assist with medical necessity and denials management

Additionally, inside this edition you’ll find tips for ACDIS local chapters going through leadership transitions, information related to principal diagnosis selection, advice around the different roles of case management and CDI, and documentation guidance for coding strokes.

The ACDIS team hopes that you’ll enjoy this latest edition and find something of value within its pages.
