ACDIS update: New clinical definition examples posted

CDI Strategies - Volume 15, Issue 46

A number of clinical definition examples have been posted to the ACDIS website. All of these examples have been reviewed by the Forms and Tools Committee for accuracy and compliance. The definition examples are intended to be used by organizations as a template, changing as needed per your facility, to ensure all staff members are using the same clinical definitions for diagnoses. Recently posted definition samples include:

  • Functional quadriplegia
  • Obesity in adults
  • Myocardial infarction and non-traumatic myocardial injury
  • Hypertension, hypertensive urgency, and hypertensive emergency
  • Hyperlactatemia and lactic acidosis
  • Encephalopathy
  • Heart failure
  • EVALI
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Blood loss anemia
  • Acute tabular necrosis
  • Acute kidney injury

All of these sample clinical definitions can be found here, or under the Resources tab on the website in Policies & Procedures.

Do you have clinical definitions that you use within your own organization? How about a written job description for a CDI analyst? Or maybe a physician query template?

If you have any forms or tools used within your organization that you think may be useful to the broader ACDIS community, send them to Editor Carolyn Riel (criel@acdis.org) so they may be reviewed by the Forms and Tools Committee and posted to the website.
