ACDIS update: What’s new with the ACDIS Podcast

CDI Strategies - Volume 16, Issue 30

Every other Wednesday, the ACDIS national team gets the chance to sit down and chat with a special guest—including industry thought leaders, ACDIS advisory board members, educators, and everyday professionals working in the CDI realm. These interviews provide a free, digestible way to learn new perspectives and get quick advice on a variety of relevant CDI topics. Here’s a recap of the subjects discussed just in the last month!

Back in June, Jeanne Johnson, RN, MHA, CDI director at Premier Health in Dayton, Ohio, shared her perspective having to build an auditing process for her department from the ground up, and how they’ve had to evolve over the years. She also gave advice on peer audits and how to help staff see feedback as an opportunity, not something negative. You can listen to the full episode here or via your favorite podcast app.

At the very start of July, Kim Conner, BSN, CCDS, CCDS-O, a CDI education specialist for ACDIS/HCPro, spoke with us about the growing importance of social determinants of health and how CDI specialists can make a big difference working with different departments to emphasize this. CDI professionals are in the perfect position to ask the right questions and review the discrepancies in documentation to better capture these codes, Conner said, even if they do not yet directly impact reimbursement. You can listen to the full episode here or via your favorite podcast app.

Last, Dawn Valdez, RN, LNC, CDIP, CCDS, a CDI education specialist for ACDIS/HCPro, just last week talked about onboarding and training new CDI staff as the profession continues to grow and expand in focus. Among many great suggestions, she recommended that new CDI specialists study clinical indicators for the most commonly denied diagnoses at their facility and always know why a query being sent out is needed. What are we covering next? Every now and then the ACDIS team will sit down and talk about the upcoming events and news for ACDIS in what we call our ‘ACDIS Happy Hour’ episode. Next week you can expect to hear us chatting about the upcoming books ACDIS is gearing up to publish, the newest edition of the CDI Journal, what to expect for this year’s CDI Week, and the upcoming Leadership Council application period. We’ll also be including a sneak peek into one of last year’s Council calls focused on CDI productivity!

You won’t want to miss the upcoming topics further out in our podcast schedule, including outpatient CDI and CMI and metrics. Luckily, subscribing is free and allows us to send you an email the day before and day of a podcast episode, so you always remember to tune in!

For a quick but informative 30 minutes, listen in every other Wednesday for the best practices, tips, and latest news for CDI and ACDIS, live at 11:30 a.m. EST or any time on your favored podcast app.
