CCDS Update: Increase in required CEUs for certification renewal

CDI Strategies - Volume 8, Issue 1

Beginning March 1, 2015, the number of continuing education units (CEUs) required to recertify the CCDS will rise to 30. Candidates for recertification may submit:

  • Up to 20 CEUs from ACDIS-sponsored quarterly conference calls and the CDI Journal quiz. (The Journal is published six times annually beginning this month. Together with the four CEUs available from the quarterly calls, these add to 10 CEUs that members can earn each year.)
  • All CEUs awarded for the annual ACDIS conference and HCPro CDI Boot Camps (no change from 2014 requirements)
  • Up to 10 CEUs for any other single activity (no change from 2014 requirements), This includes CEUs earned from ICD-10 and CDI training and education-related activities from other organizations such as AHIMA, AAPC, and nursing CEUs.

Please refer to the ACDIS web site for additional information about what CEUs are accepted for recertification.

Email Penny Richards if you have any questions regarding these changes.
