Director’s Note: Thanks for a successful conference

CDI Strategies - Volume 5, Issue 8

Last week more than 700 CDI professionals attended the 4th Annual ACDIS Conference at the Hilton Walt Disney Resort in Orlando. From the physician advisor preconference, to the poster session, and the terrific vendors in the exhibit hall to the three tracks of educational sessions, it was a full three days of networking, education, and fun. The day two local chapter networking lunch, run by the Florida Chapter of ACDIS and new to this year’s conference, was also a huge hit!

We were very pleased to name Donald A. Butler, RN, BSN, Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager Pitt County Memorial Hospital, as this year’s CDI Professional of the Year. The individual who nominated him said:

“When you think of the qualities one would look for in the CDI Professional of the Year the terms ‘experienced,’ ‘knowledgeable,’ ‘generous,’ and ‘self-effacing’ come to mind. A visitor to the ACDIS website would find it an unusual occurrence to read the questions and responses posted on CDI Talk without coming across [Don Butler’s] name. Indeed, since March of 2010, this individual has either started a topic chain or responded to others’ questions a total of 228 times! He always has a word of encouragement to offer new CDI professionals.”

During the Awards Luncheon on Day 1, ACDIS also honored Kelley Sears, RN, Clinical Documentation Specialist at Good Samaritan Medical Center part of Caritas Christi Health Care in Massachusetts, and Kara Masucci, RN, PNP, MSN, CCDS, from Morristown Memorial Hospital/Atlantic Health, with awards for Recognition of CDI Professional Achievement. All three winners represent the best of the CDI profession.

Look for a photo spread, conference recaps, and more information on our award winners in our Special Conference Section due out later this month.
