News: ACDIS updates Code of Ethics

CDI Strategies - Volume 9, Issue 19

Have you ever been asked to perform a task that concerned you ethically? Fifty percent of 876 respondents to an early summer ACDIS poll, say they have. This poll wasn’t the only cause for concern, however, as ACDIS members and CDI professionals increasing presented ethically questionable scenarios forward, seeking advice on to best respond and resolve them.

That’s why ACDIS leadership and its Advisory Board spent the past several months delving into collective industry guidance, reviewing the existing ACDIS “Code of Ethics,” and gathering membership testimonies to create a comprehensive “Code of Ethics” update.

The updated “Code” addresses the growing need for additional guidance on specific situations and concerns, including query compliance, conflicts of interest, decision-making, fraud and abuse, and other concerns. As ACDIS and the CDI profession continues to grow, and CDI continues to evolve away from the traditional financial focus, the new “Code of Ethics” moves with it, outlining the most current ethical concerns and questions that CDI professionals experience.

ACDIS Director Brian Murphy, along with Advisory Board members Mark Leblanc, RN, MBA, CCDS, and Michelle McCormack, RN, BSN, CCDS, highlighted some of the changes on a recent ACDIS Radio broadcast. Click here to listen.

All ACDIS members and CCDS holders are expected to comply with the standards and professional behaviors outlined in the “Code of Ethics.” Read it here.
