News: CMS releases annual contractor satisfaction survey

Based on overall satisfaction, CMS contractors received a mean score of 3.77 out of a maximum possible score of five, according to the sixth annual Medicare Contractor Provider Satisfaction Survey (MCPSS). By business function, contractors scored slightly lower with a mean of 3.64, according to the report.
The survey offers Medicare fee for service (FFS) providers an opportunity to provide CMS feedback about their contractors on seven business functions, including the following:
- Provider Inquiries
- Provider Outreach and Education
- Claims Processing
- Appeals
- Provider Enrollment
- Medical Review
- Provider Audit and Reimbursement
According to the report, satisfaction with Part A and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Medicare Audit Contractors was highest at 74 percent. The MCPSS was distributed to a random sample of 30,000 Medicare FFS providers and suppliers that serve Medicare beneficiaries across the country.
