News: CMS releases OPPS October update

CMS has issued its latest series of change request (CR) modifications to the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), according to a federal press release.

This latest iteration of changes contains a number of current procedural terminology updates. Some of the more prominent updates include:

  • Proprietary laboratory analyses (45 new codes)
  • New OPPS device pass-through category approvals
  • Status indicator changes for retinal coherence tomography scans and Xenografts
  • Drugs, biologicals, and radiopharmaceuticals (64 new codes)
  • Skin substitutes (16 new codes)
  • Blood products (1 new code)

The OPPS update also contains modifications to drugs and biologicals with payments based on average sales price, along with the creation of one new multianalyte assay with algorithmic analyses code.

CR 13784, released on August 29, has an effective date of October 1, and an implementation date of October 7.
