News: ICD-10 MS-DRG grouper released

CDI Strategies - Volume 8, Issue 1
CMS released a draft version 31 of the MS-DRG grouper for ICD-10 recently. Providers can use the grouper to identify MS-DRG shifts and payment changes under ICD-10. The Final ICD-10 MS-DRG v32 logic, which will be implemented on October 1, 2014, will be subject to rulemaking.

The v31 definitions are displayed in “grouper logic order.” The MS-DRGs are listed in the order in which the grouper recognizes them. This enables users to see instances where grouper logic order differs from strict numerical order.

CMS is also making software available to allow providers to group claims using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes using the latest definitions. Providers cannot use the software to submit claims because CMS will not accept ICD-10 codes until October 1, 2014. CMS will continue to update the MS-DRGs based on feedback it receives from providers. V32 will use the final ICD-10 code set for fiscal year 2015.
