News: N.C. Blue Cross Blue Shield bundles knee replacement payments

Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of North Carolina represents the latest payer to join the bundled payment movement, according to a recent article by Fierce Healthcare. Under the new system, patients who receive knee replacements from either Duke University Health System or Triangle Orthopaedic Associates will be billed one, total amount for each service.
“We see bundling being a true way to change the way care is delivered today through both optimization and engagement across the continuum of providers; breaking that fragmented, silo approach that exists today,” Brian Holt, director of strategic reimbursement and contracting, at BCBSNC told Fierce.
