News: Pulmonary embolism patients with COVID-19 at higher risk of mortality, study finds

Patients diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism (PE) and COVID-19 maintained higher in-hospital mortality rates than those without COVID-19, according to MedPage Today.

Rana Prathap Padappayil, MBBS, of Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, presented the conclusions of a new study during the International Scientific Assembly of the American College of Chest Physicians’ (CHEST) annual meeting.

According to Padappayil, whereas patients with PE and COVID-19 had an in-hospital mortality rate of 19.8%, PE patients without a concomitant COVID-19 virus had a rate of only 7.1%.
