News: RAC release identifies top concern per provider

Since the inception of the permanent recovery audit contractor (RAC) program, government auditors have identified claims errors in excess of $350—$313.2 million of which were identified as overpayments and recouped by the government. According to a single-sheet release, the top overpayment issues by contractor for the FY 2010 through March 2011 were:
- Region A, Diversified Collection: Incorrect coding associated with ventilator support of 96+ hours.
- Region B, CGI, Inc: Incorrect coding for extensive operating room procedure unrelated to principal diagnosis.
- Region C, Connolly, Inc. and Region D, HealthDataInsights: Billing for bundled services for separately durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) provided during an inpatient stay.
