News: Surveyed clinical staff suggest solutions to hospital CEOs to alleviate burnout
In a new survey conducted by the KLAS Arch Collaborative, the majority of physicians and nurses agree on how hospital leadership can help reduce burnout. From the clinical staff surveyed, the top two solutions were improving staffing and aligning leadership, respectively, HealthLeaders reported. For their third choice, physicians want improved EHR systems, while nurses want better pay.
More than 20,000 physicians and 32,000 nurses were surveyed for the report, using data collected between January 2022 and August 2023. The top six methods chosen by respondents are as follows:
- Improve staffing
- Align leadership with physicians and nurses
- Provide better pay
- Improve EHR efficiency
- Decrease workload
- Provide better wellness benefits
The study also found that, though burnout rates remain higher than pre-pandemic levels, they are beginning to stabilize for some and slightly decline overall while staffing shortages have been increasingly mentioned as a contributor to burnout. Those who reported that they are starting to feel burned out were more likely to cite efficiency-related issues, while those who reported being completely burned out cited organizational issues.
