Note from the ACDIS Director: Launching the ACDIS Leadership Council

CDI Strategies - Volume 13, Issue 34

By Brian Murphy

If you’re a regular user of the ACDIS website (and we hope you are), you will be seeing a few new features in the coming days. In addition to streamlining the website, we’ve made a few adjustments related to a brand-new initiative  for CDI supervisors, managers, and directors working in the provider setting: The ACDIS Leadership Council.

We believe the ACDIS Leadership Council will benefit the entirety of our membership and the broader CDI community. The Council will be taking succinct surveys to generate actionable data on how CDI departments nationwide are performing and operating. They will be sharing ideas and learning from one another both virtually and in face-to-face settings regarding management-level concerns.

While not all of the Council resources will be open to ACDIS members, we plan to share some of these best practices and data highlights with the broader CDI community. An example of what you might expect to see in the near future can be seen in our recent report, “Denials management: Leveraging CDI expertise to protect revenue.” This report combines survey findings from 118 CDI supervisors, managers, and directors from around the country, with in-depth analysis from a roundtable of eight leaders of high-performing CDI departments. It shares denials trends and strategies to prevent denials from occurring in the first place.

The first class of Council members has already been selected, but we will be reopening the application process next summer. We believe this helps creates a pathway for CDI professionals to move into the leadership ranks. You can read much more about the Council here.

I have always said (and not with false humility) that CDI professionals learn more from each other than we at ACDIS could ever teach them. But we are happy as the nation’s association for CDI specialists to be providing the platform for meaningful connections.

In that vein, I’d like to take a moment to introduce my colleague Delaney Rebernik who  will be serving as the membership manager for the ACDIS Leadership Council, helping to foster discussions, deploy valuable surveys, and ensure our Council members make the most of this unique networking and learning opportunity.

If you have any questions about the ACDIS Leadership Council, or just want to say “hi,” you can contact her at drebernik@hcpro.com.

Editor’s note: Rebernik left the company to pursue another career opportunity in January 2020. For information about the Leadership Council, please contact Linnea Archibald (larchibald@acdis.org). Murphy is the director of ACDIS. Contact him at bmurphy@acdis.org.
