Note from the ACDIS Editor: CDI Roadmap updated

CDI Strategies - Volume 12, Issue 47

By Linnea Archibald

Veteran ACDIS members will remember the CDI Roadmap in its original form—a page on our previous website with purple-framed signposts and cartoon highway heading off into an orange background.

After months of work, it’s been updated with fresh materials and given a facelift.

Originally, the CDI Roadmap laid out the process for CDI program implementation and initial efforts through a collection of documents organized around an outline. All the documents were available for download in a zipped folder. But, a lot has changed since the Roadmap was written and published in 2010—from the scope of CDI reviews, to the settings in which CDI professionals work.

To respond to the changes in the industry, the CDI Practice Guidelines Committee began updating the Roadmap about a year ago, pouring over the details and nuances of each document in the resource.

Then, once the committee’s work ended, ACDIS staff set about making the Roadmap into a valuable and dynamic resource.

As it stands now, the Roadmap has been turned into a visual representation of CDI program pre-implementation and implementation assets with links to all the relevant documents that make up the Roadmap in addition to several other resources available on the ACDIS website—from CDI Journal articles, to items in the Resource Library, to episodes of ACDIS Radio.

If you haven’t already, please take a moment to review the Roadmap and thank the committee members for all their work on the project!

While the Roadmap was a monumental amount of work, the Practice Guidelines Committee’s work hasn’t ceased. Currently, they’re working on a number of projects, including an update to ACDIS’ white paper on electronic health records, a white paper on easing query fatigue and physician burnout, and a series of articles geared toward professionals from other industries (i.e., nursing, HIM, coding, etc.) explaining the purpose and work of CDI.

ACDIS committee members work hard to further the CDI profession and we’re all very grateful for their efforts and dedication. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
