Note from the Associate Editorial Director: Grow professionally, build your association on an ACDIS committee

CDI Strategies - Volume 20, Issue 2

by Linnea Archibald

If you’ve ever read one of our white or position papers, attended a Quarterly Member Call, reviewed regulatory information and education on the ACDIS site, sat for one of our certifications, or used one of the samples in our online Resource Library, you’ve benefited from the work of our boards and committees.

ACDIS has seven volunteer committees and an advisory board, each tasked with building the resources and guidance you leverage both as ACDIS members and non-member community members. We could not provide what we do within ACDIS without the help of these groups. We are immensely thankful to each individual who gives their time and energy to help build our professional community.

Each year, we open a call for new volunteers twice (in January and May), each time calling for volunteers for four of our various volunteer groups. Right now, the call for volunteers is open until January 31, 2026, for the groups below.

  • ACDIS Advisory Board: The board is responsible for providing leadership, expertise, and an industry voice for the ACDIS community through authoring official Position Papers and White Papers, participating on the Quarterly Member Call panel discussions, and more. The Advisory Board membership includes CDI professionals from backgrounds representative of the broader CDI community and this year we are seeking one member from a provider background, one from an HIM background, and two from a clinician background. All finalists will be subject to a public vote by the ACDIS membership this spring.
  • Certification Committee: This committee is responsible for maintaining and updating the CCDS and CCDS-O Certification Programs, including the exam and its prerequisites.
  • Regulatory Committee: This committee is responsible for reviewing regulatory policy for updates pertinent to the CDI profession and providing summary, interpretation, and analysis to the ACDIS community.
  • Resource Library Committee: This committee is responsible for reviewing materials donated to the ACDIS community for publication in the Resource Library for accuracy, compliance, relevance, and effectiveness.

Each group is comprised of eight to 12 ACDIS members from all professional and personal backgrounds, geographic regions, and organization types. They are truly a microcosm of the broader ACDIS membership. If you are interested in learning more about the scope and work of each committee, click here. We want your expertise and guidance, so if you’re interested, make sure to submit your application by the end of this month.

If professional development was on your 2026 resolutions list, this would be a great opportunity to get involved. We can’t wait to read your applications and work with you this year!
