Note from the Director of Programming: Turning the pages of your CDI adventure

CDI Strategies - Volume 17, Issue 29

by Rebecca Hendren

I am a voracious reader. Ever since I was a child, one of my favorite things has always been losing myself in a good book. Many of the ACDIS team feel exactly the same. Books we read and love are a frequent topic of conversation.

So, this year’s CDI Week theme, CDI Success Stories: Writing Your Next Chapter, makes me particularly happy. The theme conjures up images of books filled with epic tales of good versus evil, tales of resilience and perseverance, stories about people coming together for the common good. It conveys how the profession of CDI is an ongoing journey, that CDI professionals have a blank page in front of them and can decide how to tell their own tale.

This year we are inviting you to share your CDI story with your world as you celebrate the profession from September 18-22, and, as always, ACDIS will offer plenty of resources to help you do that.

The 2023 CDI Week poster, which can be downloaded here, is a cozy bookstore just waiting for you to pick up a good read. I certainly recommend the titles in the front window!

A highlight of CDI Week every year is the release of the Industry Survey (see 2022’s overview here), which is one of the most useful tools our profession has for tracking industry trends. CDI programs can use the data contained in this annual report to review and analyze their own programs. The data is most useful when we have large numbers of people responding, so I urge you all to take the survey and to share it with your colleagues.

The 2023 CDI Week Industry Survey is open until Wednesday, August 2 and will take less than 15 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey, respondents also have the opportunity to enter a giveaway to win a free ACDIS membership (the winners will be announced during CDI Week).

This year’s topics include:

  • Provider engagement
  • Professional development and staffing
  • Outpatient CDI and risk adjustment
  • Denial trends and CDI involvement
  • Workflow tools and technology

The profession will be using the data from this survey throughout the coming year. ACDIS will publish the results, as well as expert commentary, during CDI Week and it will be available for ACDIS members/non-members alike.

I look forward to celebrating with you all in September and I can’t wait to read your CDI stories.
