Note from the Director: Volunteer to serve on the ACDIS Advisory Board, Resource Library Committee
by Rebecca Hendren
Have you ever wanted to have a say in ACDIS’ white papers and position papers or offer your two cents on what the big issues in CDI might be? If so, a seat on the ACDIS Advisory Board might be just your cup of tea.
The CDI profession features people from many disciplines, and thus ACDIS strives to keep the makeup of the Board balanced with representation that reflects our membership. Along with myself and Deanne Wilk, ACDIS’ CDI Education Director, the Board is comprised of 12 individuals:
- Seven clinicians or professionals with advanced clinical training or experience, which may include registered nurses possessing an RN licensure, physician assistants (PA) or nurse practitioners (NP), or foreign medical graduates (MBBS, etc.)
- Three individuals possessing HIM/coding certifications
- Two physicians possessing an MD or DO licensure
Board members must have at least five years of CDI experience, be an ACDIS member, and have obtained the CCDS. They serve for a three-year term and their role is to provide guidance and direction to the Association as well as to represent the CDI profession.
The ACDIS Advisory Board has accomplished a lot over the last 15 years, including writing position papers and white papers that shape our industry, provide oversight, and define CDI. One of the most important roles that the Association fulfills is to ensure the profession of CDI is governed and directed by those who practice CDI—and our amazing Board members over the years have ensured we did just that.
This year we have openings for two new members. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something different and affect real change in your industry. We are looking for:
- One individual from an HIM background
- One individual from a clinical background
Finalists for the ACDIS Advisory Board will be subject to a vote by the ACDIS membership in spring 2025.
If you’re interested in applying to serve, this is a wonderful year to get involved. The application period is open until January 31, 2025.
And if you’d be more interested in a different committee, we also have the Resource Library Committee open, which reviews materials donated to the ACDIS community for publication in the Resource Library for accuracy, compliance, relevance, and effectiveness.
