Note from the Product Coordinator: What’s on your CDI bookshelf?

CDI Strategies - Volume 16, Issue 11

by Karla Accorto

I can’t imagine I’m the first ACDIS leadership team member to say that I love to read. We all have passionately pursued careers in editing and writing, so it’s not a stretch for us to also love reading. I’m equal parts proud and embarrassed to say I’ve already read 14 books this year. Proud because I’m on track to beat my personal goal but embarrassed because, well, I can’t possibly read that much without neglecting some other things—laundry, chores, exercise, to name a few.

Thrillers are some of my favorite reads. I just love a good murder mystery.

Then again, I’m also a sucker for a romance with a side of happily ever after. Safe to say my tastes are varied. But I’m getting ahead of myself here, so let me back up for a moment as I realize some of you may not know me.

I’m Karla, and I’m an editor and product coordinator on the ACDIS team. As they say, by comparison I’m new around here.

One of my main responsibilities within ACDIS is to manage our CDI library, including the ACDIS Pocket Guide series. I serve as the editor for the books we publish, working closely with authors throughout the writing and publication process. So, it’s really no wonder I’ve always got books on the mind, whether they’re mystery, romance, or CDI.

For the past year and my first project, I had the pleasure of working on the latest ACDIS Pocket Guide with Laurie Prescott, RN, MSN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CDIP, CRC, interim ACDIS director and all-around superstar. I’ve edited books before, but this was an experience like no other; I was new to both CDI and the style and formatting unique to the ACDIS Pocket Guides, which made for a steep learning curve! Many thanks to Laurie who did double duty, simultaneously writing the book and giving me a crash course in CDI. It was an eventful year as we worked to make the book the absolute best for you all. So, if you’ve purchased the 2022 ACDIS Pocket Guide, know that you’re basically holding my first-born—please keep it safe.

After spending so much time learning about CDI and working on the ACDIS Pocket Guides, it seemed natural for me to start editing our other CDI books, of which we have many. So many, in fact, that I’m still getting to know all of them.

And that’s where I’m hoping you can help me. I’d love to know what’s on your CDI bookshelf. Which are your favorite? What titles would you like to see updated in the coming years? Is there a topic we haven’t covered that you’re dying to know more about? Send me an email and let me know—I’d love the opportunity to get to know you all.

I’ve heard the ACDIS community is like a family, and I hope you won’t mind adding another seat to the table because I am just so happy to be here.
