ACDIS update: March/April CDI Journal focuses on query practice
Despite its centrality, it’s easy to become complacent when it comes to query practices. Because it’s a “CDI basic,” brushing up on best practices and procedures may take a back seat to flashier pursuits—such as denials management and appeals, clinical validation reviews, quality measures, expansion into new settings, and the like. Yet, a careless query practice may be the biggest compliance risk CDI professionals encounter in their day-to-day work.
That’s why we’ve dedicated the March/April edition of the CDI Journal to querying best practices, giving space to this modest but essential skill.
Within this edition’s pages, readers will learn about ACDIS’ 2020 physician query survey findings, providing clinical validation education, developing an outpatient query and education process, conducting query audits, and easing physician burnout.
This edition also includes advice from industry experts such as Sarah Nehring, CCS, CCDS, on neoplasm coding and documentation, Amy Sanderson, MD, on the clinical nuances of pulmonary hypertension, Jessica Vaughn, MSN, RN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CRC, on the evolution of outpatient query practice, and Howard Rodenberg, MD, MPH, CCDS, on CDI research endeavors.
Of course, this edition also includes some of our usual articles from our CDI Boot Camp instructors, a glimpse into chapter events from our associate editorial director, guidance from an in-the-field physician advisor, and advice from an ACDIS member.
This edition also includes a sneak peek of the 13th annual ACDIS conference and an article from the ACDIS editor on query practice resources on the ACDIS website.
The ACDIS team hopes you’ll enjoy this latest edition and find some helpful information within its pages. The May/June edition will focus on CDI program evolution and maturation, so if you’d like to contribute, wish to share your CDI journey, or suggest an article idea, please feel free to email us.
