News: Survey shows value-based program participation on the rise
Though value-based care is still in the early stages of adoption, respondents to HealthLeaders Media’s Value-Based Readiness Survey expect robust growth in the share of patients in value-based programs over the next three years, HealthLeaders Media reported.
While the survey respondents said that 26% of their patients are currently in value-based programs, they expect that number to double to 52% in three years.
According to the survey, hospitals are leading the charge into value-based care adoption. About 32% of hospitals are currently enrolled in value-based care programs, as are 32% of health systems, and 20% of physician organizations. In three years, it’s estimated that about half of all patients, regardless of setting, will be enrolled in a value-based program of some kind.
Although value-based program participation is expected to rise according to the survey, there are a number of roadblocks in the way of a smooth and fast transition. The survey respondents indicated that developing care and payment models and competencies that address longitudinal patient care and the alignment of independent physicians/providers pose hurdles.
