Note from the ACDIS Editor: Kindle your innovative spirit with the new CDI Journal edition!
by Jess Fluegel
In a simpler, but arguably less interesting world, all a CDI program would ever need is the basics to improve the accuracy of medical documentation at their organization. In this world, of course, the CDI Specialist’s Training Guide alone has gone through three editions, and the ACDIS has published dozens of books on the topic of CDI. As medical research continues, technology advances, and government regulations evolve, the only constant in the healthcare industry seems to be change! With the economic forecast ever in flux as well, CDI programs are continuously being asked to do more with less—but thanks to efficiency improvements, technology solutions, and (most importantly) a spark of innovative spirit, CDI professionals are answering that call.
To assist you in your personal and departmental endeavors to try something new, we’ve dedicated the May/June edition of the CDI Journal to all things innovation, whether that involves expanding into a new area or focus, implementing new technology, or improving your current CDI workflow.
In this edition, readers will find articles about:
- Adapting CDI education for the digital age
- CDI technology from pilot to post-implementation
- Expanding under the pediatric umbrella
- Enhancing clinical documentation through effective query practices
- Developing an efficient, effective CDI workflow
- Understanding the benefits of AI for CDI
- Bridging the documentation gap in pediatrics and OB/GYN
- A look at the development of an outpatient program
The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something helpful in its pages. As always, the CDI Journal is a benefit of ACDIS membership. To learn more about joining ACDIS, click here. ACDIS members can earn one CCDS/CCDS-O CEU for reading each edition of the Journal and taking the associated quiz. You can learn more on the full edition download page.
Writing for the CDI Journal is also a great opportunity for CDI professionals to share their hard-earned wisdom. Our next edition will focus on a very essential topic: education! If you have experience to share on educating providers/CDI staff/other departments/yourself or another related topic, we’d love to receive your submission. Contributors published in the Journal receive 0.5 CEUs per 350 published words (articles tend to be around the 750-1,500-word mark), and the deadline for the July/August edition on education is June 1, 2025!
I hope this edition helps you seek new ways to innovate your CDI work both personally and with your team. You can submit your article for our next Journal edition here. Please reach out to me if you have any questions
