All on the same team: Avenues for collaboration between CDI and the case management department
CDI professionals often work with physicians and coders, but record reviews also lend themselves to collaboration with case management. Part of a case manager’s job is to look at documentation in the medical record from the standpoint of medical necessity, meaning the justification for the patient’s inpatient stay. Since CDI’s main work centers around chart reviews too, they have an opportunity to assist case management and open lines of communication.
