Ask ACDIS: Simple steps to ensure physician support

Q: How would you suggest I approach my CDI efforts with physicians? I plan to inform them that I am there to protect their reimbursement, too. Would that be okay, or would there be another way to approach this?

A: You are right, getting physician buy-in is the most important step in this entire process. Each physician has different motivators. We often default to the assumption that they are concerned with maximizing reimbursement. But in my experience, speaking to quality measures, and physician and organizational profiling, usually captures their attention more.
