Local Chapter Events: Consider joining your regional CDI network

CDI Strategies - Volume 8, Issue 15

If you haven’t joined your local ACDIS chapter yet, what are you waiting for? Local chapter leaders and meeting hosts put a ton of volunteer effort into making sure these events are both educational and fun. Perfect case in point was the June 18 meeting of the Evergreen (Washington state) ACDIS Chapter hosted by Susan Browne, RN, MN, CCDS, CDI director at Capital Medical Center in Olympia. (See a photo of the group on the ACDIS Blog.)

More than 20 attendees participated in the meeting which featured several education sessions including Capella Healthcare CDI Director Marcie Mofield’s, RN, CCDS, presentation on “Lessons Learned in CDI,” a review of ACDIS 2014 conference takeaways, shared ICD-10-CM/PCS queries and discussion during a working lunch, and an HCPro webcast on respiratory coding and documentation.
The group emphasized its meeting theme “Add some spice to your CDI career” by supplying small herbal garden starter kits as the table centerpieces and also made “CDI Survival Kit” gift bags which included:
  • A chocolate kiss: To remind you that everyone needs a hug, kiss, or word of encouragement every day.
  • Penny: To remind you of the value of your thoughts – BIG ones and little ones! Share them with others.
  • Life Savers: To remind you to think of your peers as your “life savers”. Care about each other and help each other through the stressful times.
  • Band-aid: For when things get a little rough!
  • Snickers: Take the time to laugh, it is an instant stress reliever.
  • Marble: For when you lose yours!
  • Gum: To remind you to stick to it!
  • Tissues: To remind you to see the tears and needs of others, including those of yourself and your peers.
  • Ice pack: For your ICD-10 headaches!
  • Stress Ball: Well … you know why!
