Local chapter update: Consider creating leadership succession plans

CDI Strategies - Volume 15, Issue 44

Autumn is the perfect time to think about change, as CDI Education Director Laurie Prescott put it in her note for this week’s CDI Strategies. It’s particularly true for local chapter leadership teams. ACDIS requires three different volunteers from three different healthcare institutions to serve as the core leaders of its local chapters and networking groups to sign and adhere to its local chapter agreement form by January 30 each year. Identifying new leadership volunteers in the fall allows the team time to successfully onboard new core leaders regarding policies, procedures, and plans for the upcoming year prior to handing over the reins.

Additionally, ACDIS strongly recommends that chapter volunteers remain in a core leadership role for no more than three years and that they annually put out a call for new volunteers to create a larger leadership team. Although ACDIS requires three individuals to serve as core contacts for the group, teams can include additional volunteers to help with education planning, communication, CE applications, among other valuable services. Larger volunteer teams serve as a training ground for those who may wish to eventually help out in a larger capacity and can teach participants valuable networking and leadership skills applicable to their daily CDI professional lives.
