Local Chapter Update: Summer events focus on ICD-10 and emerging trends

ACDIS Associate Director Melissa Varnavas will be traveling to the AHIMA CDI Summit in Alexandria, Virginia, Thursday, August 6-8. Included among the speakers are ACDIS influencers and frequent podium pundits Melinda Tully of J.A. Thomas, a Nuance Company, Jennifer Woodworth of Swedish Medical Center, ACDIS Advisory Board member James Fee of Huff DRG Review, past-ACDIS Advisory Board member Sue Belley of 3M, and Jennifer Cavagnac of Baystate Health among others.

We’re looking forward to catching up with old friends and maybe making a new acquaintance or two. Stop by our table and say hello if you happen to be attending, too.

Ohio
The Ohio ACDIS Chapter meets Friday, August 7, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Wooster Community Hospital. The agenda includes:

  • Registration and welcome
  • “Emerging CDI Trends in 2015: CDI Survey Findings and Tips to Elevate Physician Engagement”
  • “CDI and PSIs: Leverage Query Efforts to Capture Patient Safety Indicator Documentation”
  • “Documentation for ICD-10-PCS”

New York
The New York City Five Boroughs (NYC5B) Chapter meets Thursday, August 13, 5:15 p.m., at the VA Medical Center, on East 23rd Street. The presentation will be “Beyond the Basics of CC Capture; Understanding Profiling and Risk Adjustment Methods,” by Wendy Clesi, RN, CCDS, CDIP, Director CDI Services at Huff DRG Review.

Indiana/Kentucky
The joint Indiana/Kentucky ACDIS Regional meeting takes place Friday, August 21, at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. The agenda includes:

Massachusetts
The MA ACDIS Chapter meets, Friday, September 25, 10 a.m. to 1p.m., at Newton Wellesley Hospital. Eleanor Paglia, MD, will present on pneumonia, and Joel Auslander, MD, will present on AKI, Cardiorenal Syndrome, and Cor Pulmonale.
