News: ‘One Big Beautiful Bill to have disastrous consequences for U.S. rural hospitals, says AHA
The new “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” poised to go through Congress threatens to disqualify 1.8 million rural Americans from Medicare by 2034, according to the American Hospital Association (AHA).
Additionally, according to the AHA, the bill would result in a $50.4 billion reduction in federal Medicaid spending for rural hospitals over the next decade.
At the state level, in terms of rural Medicaid loss through 2034, the top three states most impacted would be California (-$134.9K), Kentucky (-$142.3K), and Ohio (-$86.0K).
In terms of the 10-year federal rural hospital impact through 2034, the most impacted states would be Kentucky (-$4,012M), North Carolina (-$2,988M), and Iowa (-$2,666M).
