News: 32% of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries are familiar with Star Ratings

CDI Strategies - Volume 13, Issue 27

Only 32% of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries know about the Medicare Advantage Star Ratings, and of those only half used them to make health purchasing decisions, according to new data from HealthMine. This low number, according to Health Payer Intelligence, indicates that more work is needed to educate beneficiaries on the resources available to them when choosing their health plans.

Nevertheless, the survey found that 74% of enrollees selected a plan with four or more stars. This could be because of the prevalence of highly-rated health plans, however. A total of 21 health plans earned a five-star rating, according to CMS, and only four plans earned 2.5 stars or lower.
