News: CMS begins ICD-10 translation of NCDs, hosts preparation calls

CDI Strategies - Volume 7, Issue 7

In order to meet the ICD-10 October 1, 2014, implementation timeline, CMS began making necessary changes to the National Coverage Determination (NCD) hard-coded shared system edits in January 2013, and will continue to make changes quarterly through October 2013, according to a recent MedLearn Matters article.

The article contains spreadsheets listing all affected ICD-9 codes and their corresponding ICD-10 codes as they relate to their respective NCDs, in addition to the rest of the coding infrastructure specific to each NCD as attachments.

CMS will hold a national provider call regarding the ICD-10 transition on Thursday, April 18, 1:30 p.m. (ET). The call will provide a basic overview as well as strategies for planning and preparing for ICD-10 implementation. To register, see the call notice.

In addition, CMS contractor National Government Services will host a series of listening sessions to gather feedback from providers on end-to-end testing of ICD-10 and other HIPAA administrative simplification requirements. For more information, see the CMS website.
