News: CMS delays HIPAA Version 5010 enforcement date

CDI Strategies - Volume 6, Issue 7

CMS delayed the HIPAA Version 5010 compliance deadline again last week, giving providers until June 30, 2012 to comply, according to a March 15 announcement. Earlier this year, CMS pushed the previous January 1, 2012 enforcement date to March.

More than 70% of all Medicare Part A claims and more than 90% of Part B claims are now successfully being processed in the Version 5010 format, per CMS, with commercial plans reporting similar percentages. Providers are encouraged to complete implementation during this time, including testing and training activities, according to a statement from CMS.
