News: CMS invites clinicians to participate in study of MIPS reporting burden

CDI Strategies - Volume 12, Issue 9

In January, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commissions (MedPAC) recommended that the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) be thrown out and replaced with a new alternative payment program, but CMS isn’t ready to throw in the towel.

Instead of doing away with the program immediately, CMS is conducting a study of the MIPS reporting burdens on clinicians in 2018, according to AHA News. Currently, CMS is looking for participants in the study, which they expect to run from April 2018 through March 2019.

According to the call for participants, CMS is looking to:

  1. Study clinical workflows and data collection methods using different submission systems
  2. Understand the challenges providers have when they collect and report quality data
  3. Recommend changes to try to lower clinicians’ burden
  4. Improve quality data collection and reporting
  5.  Enhance clinical care.

Clinicians wishing to apply to the study can do so through Friday, March 23, and CMS will send their selection decisions in spring 2018.
