News: CMS Measures Under Consideration List includes 24 measures, many aligned with MAHA

CDI Strategies - Volume 20, Issue 1

Last month, CMS released the Measures Under Consideration List for 2025, which lists measures that the agency is considering adopting through the federal rulemaking process for use in Medicare programs. This year, there are 24 measures under consideration, some that would be new to CMS programs and others that are already in use but undergoing substantial change, according to the American Hospital Association (AHA).

According to the AHA, many of the measures address topics aligned with the Department of Health and Human Services’ Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) priorities, for example addressing chronic illness and nutrition. The list also includes “early review” of five measures aligned with MAHA that are currently in the development stage. These five measures are focused on physical activity, nutrition, safety, obesity, and well-being.

A consensus-based group (including the AHA) will convene by February 1 to provide recommendations on the measures to CMS. CMS will seek public comments as well from December 16 through January 6.
