News: CMS runs HAC data, reports available by hospital in September

CDI Strategies - Volume 7, Issue 18

By the end of September, hospitals will be able to view results for eight hospital-acquired condition measures which will be posted at data.cms.gov, and www.qualitynet.org, according to an AHANews report. Because the measures are not part of CMS’ inpatient quality reporting program they are not included in its Hospital Compare website.

The reports represent data collected from fee-for-service claims from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2012, and do not include measures associated with the recently adopted HAC payment penalty program. Hospitals should review the data since it may differ from other report card data bases such as the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score, AHANews said. Those without qualifying data for the associated time period will still have access to “mock” reports via QualityNet.
