News: Latest PEPPER reports released

CDI Strategies - Volume 5, Issue 5

By Glenn Krauss, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPUR, FCS, PCS, CCDS, C-CDI

The Fourth Quarter PEPPER reports are available and there are a host of new CDI-related target areas including:
  • Excisional debridement
  • Ventilator support
  • Transient ischemic attack
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • CC/MCC capture rate
The expansion of PEPPER target areas highlights the importance of CDI specialist’s awareness of the potential financial ramifications associated with queries that result in the hospital falling "outside the norm" in particular scrutinized DRGs. When is all said and done, the CDI programs have a vested interest in determining where the hospital falls in these PEPPER target areas as compared to the state, regional, and national averages.
