News: New York to impose sepsis treatment criteria

CDI Strategies - Volume 7, Issue 2

New York could become the first state to draft comprehensive measures regarding the identification and treatment of sepsis, according to a New York Times article. In his “State of the State” address Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo stated that every facility must “adopt aggressive procedures for identifying sepsis in patients, including the use of a countdown clock to begin treatment,” the article states.

The new guidelines which echo those recommended by the National Quality Forum, were drafted after a 12-year-old boy died of severe septic shock in 2012.
