Note from the ACDIS Editor: CDI Journal is an ACDIS labor of love

CDI Strategies - Volume 14, Issue 23

by Linnea Archibald

The CDI Journal publishes bimonthly, but the process of writing and assembling the Journal happens on a rolling basis, meaning the ACDIS team and our slew of new and returning contributors are working behind the scenes day in and day out.

For those who are new to ACDIS, the CDI Journal is our members-only publication focused on current topics in the CDI profession. Each edition includes notes from our ACDIS leadership team, a variety of feature-length and case study articles based on interviews with industry experts. It also holds contributed articles from members old and new, clinical and coding advice, and insight from a member in our recurring “Meet a Member” series.

As it stands today, each edition is between 40 and 55 pages long.

That wasn’t always the case, though. When ACDIS first launched its flagship publication, we did so on a quarterly basis with just 12 pages per edition.

Over the years, the CDI profession has expanded—to new settings, new service lines, new review focuses—and the Journal has expanded along with it. We couldn’t have done it without the help of our ACDIS community members and their willingness to participate through interviews and contributed columns.

With your help, so far this year we’ve been able to cover CDI expansion into new settings, the query process, and program maturation.

Right now, ACDIS Associate Editor Carolyn Riel and I are hard at work assembling the July/August edition, which will go to our layout folks in just a matter of days. It includes articles focused on education—both for clinicians and for CDI professionals. We’ve written some ourselves, and members contributed some. It really has been a labor of love and I can’t wait for you to read it.

As the CDI profession continues to mature and expand, I expect the Journal will follow. Whether you’re responding to a global pandemic, dealing with a resistant physician, or transitioning to a new healthcare setting, we want the Journal to reflect your experiences and illuminate solutions for your most trying situations.

To that end, we want to hear from you. How can we make the Journal more useful to you? What topics do you want to see us cover? Are you willing to participate and lend your voice? Reach out to Carolyn and myself and let us know!
