Year after year, ACDIS members report that their biggest challenge is physician engagement and education. In fact, more than half of the respondents to ACDIS’ 2019 membership survey sited physician engagement as one of their top three challenges. The May/June edition of the CDI Journal seeks to help readers navigate these troubled waters with confidence.

Within this edition’s pages, readers will learn about the current state of physician engagement through our newest survey results, the details of emerging physician educator roles, and ACDIS’ members’ greatest physician engagement tips.

This edition also includes advice from industry experts such as Howard Rodenberg, MD, MPH, CCDS, on respiratory distress, Cathy Farraher, RN, BSN, MBA, CCM, CCDS, on reducing query fatigue, Jennifer Boles, CPC, CRC, and Ellen Jantzer, RN, MSN, CCDS, CCS, CRC, on building outpatient CDI programs, and Sarah Nehring, CCS, CCDS, on sepsis coding.

Like all CDI Journal issues, this edition also includes some of our usual fare: Associate Editorial Director Melissa Varnavas discusses the current state of physician engagement, Advisory Board Member Erica Remer, MD, FACEP, CCDS, shares her best tips for physician education, CDI Education Specialist Sharme Brodie, RN, CCDS, unpacks the latest Coding Clinic advice, and Lakeyshia Moore, MBA, RHIA, shares her CDI story and advice.

The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find some helpful information to advance your CDI practices inside its pages. The July/August edition will focus on professional development and leadership, so if you’d like to contribute, wish to share you leadership journey, or suggest an article idea, please feel free to email me.
