Q&A: Chose the right data points to prove CDI department success

CDI Strategies - Volume 6, Issue 17

Q: If a hospital CEO were to tell a new CDI department manager to pull together some statistics on the performance of the department, where should he or she begin?

A: The data I would pull together for the CEO would be:
1. ROM data before program with a trend of data after program
2. Case-mix index
3. Targeted diagnoses based on SOI and ROM
4. Analysis of reviews by payer type
5. Number of reviews performed daily in comparison to the target number of reviews
6. Percentage of physician queries written in comparison with number of chart reviews
7. Reduction of number of charts coded with signs and symptoms as principal diagnosis
