News: Survey shows growth potential for CDI efforts

CDI Strategies - Volume 7, Issue 12

More than 40% of facilities without CDI programs in place expect to launch one in 2013, according to a survey from TrustHCS, presented by the company’s president, Torrey Barnhouse, during AHIMA’s ICD-10-CM/PCS and CAC Summit held in Baltimore this April.

In the presentation, Barnhouse explained that efforts related to computer assisted coding (CAC) and CDI would compete for financial support from facilities but that implementation of these programs could be vital to the successful transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS.

Although the study indicates two-thirds of facilities have CDI programs in place, respondents indicated that those programs aren’t as effective as they could be and furthermore, that their programs have no auditing structure in place, according to the presentation.
