ACDIS update: Answer the latest ACDIS poll of sepsis criteria use

CDI Strategies - Volume 14, Issue 9

Sepsis. It’s a favorite topic for CDI professionals everywhere for good reason. Not only is sepsis responsible for a large portion of hospitalized patients’ deaths, but it seems that coding, clinical, and auditing worlds can’t agree on the clinical definition of sepsis.

To deal with these challenging times, many organizations institute or develop organizationwide clinical criteria. Two years ago, ACDIS ran a poll asking respondents to tell us which criteria their facility uses for sepsis diagnoses. Here’s what people said in 2018:

  • 60% use sepsis-2
  • 16% use sepsis-3
  • 18% use a facility-specific set of criteria
  • 6% said it was not applicable

To weigh in on today’s sepsis landscape, please take a moment to respond to our follow-up poll. We will share the results in CDI Strategies after the poll has closed.
