ACDIS update: Peer into the future of CDI with the newest CDI Journal

CDI Strategies - Volume 12, Issue 2

The beginning of the new year is a time to lookback, but it’s also a time for looking forward—resolutions, goals, predictions. In this spirit, ACDIS has devoted the January/February edition of the CDI Journal to the future of CDI.

There are articles for the beginnings of things. In the article “Becoming a CDI professional: Tips for getting started,” readers will gain valuable advice for new hires just starting out their CDI careers. In “Starting from scratch: Tales from building a CDI program,” Julie Fenton, RN, BSN, and Brittany Gillen, RN, share their experience launching a CDI program at their facility in the fall of 2017.

And, there are articles for maturing programs, looking for a refresh or expansion. Dawn Diven, BSN, RN, CCDS, CDIP, and Ellen Jantzer, RN, share their outpatient expansion stories. Four CCDS holders share their journeys of certification, including what worked for them while preparing. There’s also an article for CDI professionals working at trauma centers. For those programs looking to get more out of their data, there’s also an article about a CDI informaticist position and an article from Boot Camp Instructor Allen Frady, RN-BSN, CCDS, CCS, CRC, about using metrics appropriately.

Of course, the new year is also a great time for getting back to the basics. Gets tips from Advisory Board member Paul Evans, RHIA, CCDS, CCS, CCS-P, on refreshing your core skills. Lynelle Clausen, RN, BSN, shares insights on dealing with the malnutrition dilemma. And Boot Camp Instructor Laurie Prescott, MSN, RN, CCDS, CDIP, CRC, gives advice on coding present on admission pressure ulcers.

Whatever 2018 holds for you, the CDI Journal has an article for you. Enjoy.
