Director’s Note: ACDIS welcomes new CDI Education Director

CDI Strategies - Volume 6, Issue 8

ACDIS is proud to welcome its new CDI Education Director, Cheryl Ericson, MS, RN. In this role, Ericson will be teaching core CDI skills in HCPro’s popular CDI Boot Camp and forthcoming ICD-10 for CDI Boot Camp. She will also be lending her years of expertise and experience in CDI to the organization.

A member of the ACDIS advisory board, Ericson has extensive background in adult education, data analysis, the healthcare revenue cycle, and CMS guidelines. She managed the areas of Utilization Review and CMS quality measures at a large, academic medical center and is a certified InterQual instructor.

In addition to serving on a variety of ACDIS workgroups, including the CDI Roadmap Committee, she served on the AHIMA ICD-10 work group and worked with AHIMA as a contributor to its new CDI exam.
Ericson has presented at several ACDIS annual conferences, the AHIMA Coding Conference and National Meeting, and at the Sixth (2011) National Medicare RAC Summit. Additional speaking credits include webinars for both the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and HCPro on topics including physician queries, PEPPER, and understanding the mortality index.

“It is an honor and privilege to become the next CDI Education Director at ACDIS," Ericson says. "It’s an exciting time in the field of CDI with endless opportunities for this profession as the value of concurrent reviews continues to expand beyond reimbursement and the inpatient setting. I look forward to working with the ACDIS membership to support [them as they] continue to grow their skills in the field of CDI.”
ACDIS is happy to welcome her to HCPro. Ericson will play an integral role as ACDIS continues to lead the industry in CDI training and support.
