Local chapter update: Applying for CEUs for components of other organizations

CDI Strategies - Volume 12, Issue 10

Recently, we received a question from an ACDIS local chapter leader regarding providing CCDS CEUs for events conducted by local chapters for components of other organizations, such as local components of AHIMA.

While, according to the CEU information provided through the ACDIS website, you can “submit activities from other organizations that provide education or training in CDI, ICD-10, clinical (disease or diagnosis), coding, documentation improvement activities, or diagnosis/pathophysiology,” for your own personal recertification, ACDIS does not accept more than 10 CEUs for any single activity from another organization.

All that said, if an AHIMA component, for example, wanted to specifically advertise that its meeting is offering CCDS CEUs prior to the meeting, the component would need to pay the fees for CEUs for third-party vendors and facilities. These fees are:

  • For non-profit: $75 for one to five CEUs, $15 for each additional CEU
  • For profit: $150 for one to five CEUs, $15 for each additional CEU

If your local chapter is working in collaboration with a local component of AHIMA or other organization such as AAPC or CMSA on a joint meeting, the ACDIS local chapter leadership may submit a request for CCDS credits free of charge as they would for typical ACDIS local chapter events.

The following is a list of upcoming events for ACDIS local chapters. If you have an upcoming event you would like to include, please email Melissa Varnavas (mvarnavas@acdis.org) and Linnea Archibald (larchibald@acdis.org).
