New Regulatory Committee Insights cover artificial intelligence, patient safety indicators

CDI Strategies - Volume 20, Issue 46

The Regulatory Committee is tasked with reviewing regulatory policy for updates pertinent to the CDI profession and providing summary, interpretation, and analysis to the ACDIS community. The Regulatory Committee Insight page offers a list of resources for CDI professionals on the ACDIS website. In the past few months, the committee has been hard at work adding new insights to this page!

To help CDI professionals better understand artificial intelligence, the committee has written an article to better understand how it is increasingly embedded in clinical documentation and coding workflows. The article seeks to answer a question many professionals who have spent years in CDI and coding seem to be asking: What does this mean for our roles?

In addition, the committee also published an article about patient safety indicators (PSI), including what they are, why they matter, and how they can make CDI meaningful. PSIs are used to identify potentially avoidable patient harm and use that to inform clinical patient care opportunities. Specifications pertaining to the PSIs are updated annually and are explored in this article to help CDI professionals better ensure PSI reporting more accurately reflects the care provided.
