CDI Strategies - Volume 11, Issue 10

The CMS ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee (C&M) is meeting next week, March 7 and March 8, to discuss proposed code changes to ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. The committee is a federal committee comprised of representatives from CMS and the Centers for Disease Control and Perfection’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The committee approves code changes, develops errata, addenda, and any other modification to the code sets.

For the upcoming meetings, the C&M will discuss the codes for several procedures and diagnoses, including, but not limited to:

  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Hepatic encephalopathy (re-presentation)
  • Pediatric coma scale
  • Surgical site infections
  • Types of myocardial infarctions
  • ICD-10-CM addendum

The March 7 meeting will be devoted to proposed changes to the procedure codes in ICD-10-PCS. If there is time, the diagnosis code discussion will begin after the conclusion of the procedural code section.

The March 8 meeting will be focused on the remaining diagnosis code topics.

Both meetings will be held at the CMS Auditorium in Baltimore, Maryland, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
