Note from the ACDIS Director: Recertification with ACDIS and AHIMA CEUs
by Rebecca Hendren
It was back-to-school in North Carolina this week. While the thermometer still registers sky-high temperatures, we can all feel it: Fall is imminent. The children have completed their carefree summer and are confined to school rooms again. The leaves will be turning soon. I can’t wait to have a pumpkin spice latte. And CDI Week begins in less than three weeks.
In the spirit of the school season, many of you are also turning your attention to ensuring you accrue enough CEUs to recertify your CCDS or CCDS-O credentials and I wanted to bring your attention to recent changes that will make this easier.
ACDIS’ parent company, HCPro, became part of the AHIMA Enterprise Family last year. Subsequently, both ACDIS and AHIMA have made changes to CEU requirements.
-
CCDS and CCDS-O holders have always been able to use AHIMA CEUs for recertification, but there had been a limit on how many may be used from any single activity. That limit has been removed and CCDS/CCDS-O holders may use as many relevant AHIMA CEUs for recertification as they wish.

-
AHIMA alerted credential holders earlier this year that beginning January 1, 2025, 40% of the CEUs needed in a two-year recertification period must come from AHIMA resources (including HCPro products, services, and family of brands) and/or the Component Associations.
AHIMA certification holders may use ACDIS-issued CEUs for their recertification. For more information, click here: https://www.ahima.org/certification-careers/recertify/
We hope these small changes make earning CEUs slightly easier. If you have any questions, please send us an email at info@acdis.org.
(Looking for ACDIS CEU opportunities? ACDIS members are can claim 10 CEUs per year just through their membership benefits and we also have a number of free CEU opportunities—including 13 per year from the ACDIS Podcast alone—available throughout the year.)
